Non-College Student Internships
Students are not the only ones taking advantage of internships! When it can seem like all of the options are made for graduate students and college juniors, mid-career folks are considering that an internship is a good way to changing careers. Also, this is true for those persons who have been outside of the workforce for a long period of time and are seeking for re-entry.
The initial step is to define what the aim of the middle career internship is: do you want to obtain new skills to turn to your present job, or change fields entirely? Your answer to the question will assist you to determine what types of internship position you should accept.
Then, you need to determine whether you are to get paid. Many internships do not pay, and those, which do are competitive and will need you have experience in a particular area, or something close. This means if you are a bookkeeper seeking to cut into fashion design, then it could be hard to land the high-paying gigs. The disadvantage is that you cannot confine for credit that many employers provide in place of a paycheck. In case you need to be paid, you should consider working at the internship part time, plus having a part-time work. Bear in mind that many internships last for a semester or summer, thus you will not have to work free for long!
